Councilor Mark Tuit from Hoogeveen in the race for the title of Best Driver in the Netherlands

Councilor Mark Tuit has been nominated for the title of Best Director 2023 in the Netherlands. After this nomination, it is up to the citizens to vote. Councilor Mark Tuit responds proudly: “This is an unexpected but wonderful recognition.”

Since 2014, Domestic Administration and administrative research agency Necker have been working together to find the Best Director in the Netherlands. In the first round, Tuit received the most nominations from the province of Drenthe and is therefore the Best Director of Drenthe 2023. This puts him in the running for the national title. As a municipal manager, his leadership style (effective and powerful) is well received by his administrative colleagues.

‘Continue to see every person’

All nominees from the first round were announced today at 12 noon. The councilor is on this national shortlist together with twelve other directors. “It fits in nicely with who I want to be as a person. The life lesson I received from my father is: Always be yourself, don’t look down on anyone or look up to anyone. Continue to see every person and make the world a little more beautiful,” says the surprised councilor about the nomination.

Since the summer of 2022, De Tuit has been a member of the Hoogeveen council on behalf of the PvdA. For the Hollandschevelder, being an alderman was a return to politics. He previously served in the municipal council for the PvdA for eight years and was group leader on behalf of this party in the Drents Overijsselse Delta water board.

Tuit was also director of IVN Noord and sustainability manager at Unigarant for many years. Alderman Tuit manages a versatile portfolio for Hoogeveen, including: education, culture, healthcare (including WMO), nature, landscape and climate adaptation.

You can vote here until January 30.

The winners will be announced on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 during the annual Best Director event in Kerkrade.
