The space released by the renovation of De Meerkamp sports park in Havelte will be used for housing. This also makes it clear that sports clubs such as the ice skating club are not moving from the village center to De Meerkamp.
The municipal council has unanimously approved the plan for housing at De Meerkamp. “There have been exciting debates about this in the past,” chairman Michiel van de Kasteelen noted.
At the end of 2022, the municipal council agreed to the renovation of De Meerkamp. Havelte football club longed for new changing rooms and a new canteen. By simultaneously laying out the fields differently, space is freed up for housing.
Another option was to move sports clubs from the village to De Meerkamp, which would create space for housing in other places. The municipality had an investigation carried out. This showed that the vacant land at the football club is most favorable for housing, partly because the football field site has straighter contours, while the skating rink site is round. The ice rink location would then have to be built higher in order to create a profitable number of homes.
A discussion about what type of houses will be built at De Meerkamp will follow later. This will discuss how many social rental homes will be built compared to more expensive rental and owner-occupied homes. Parties in the municipal council have different opinions on this. It is also being examined whether people with ties to Havelte can be given priority.
