Council De Wolden agrees to the arrival of sixty homes in Zuidwolde

The Ekelenberg residential area in Zuidwolde will receive sixty new homes. The plan for expansion could count on support from the entire council tonight.

This allows the initiator to start construction. On the southeast side of the village there will be mainly detached and semi-detached houses. There is also space for twelve social housing units and six medium-sized houses with a large garden. There is also room for eighteen life-long houses.

‘Excellent start’

Mark Turksma of the PvdA is happy that an agreement has been reached. “If you want to build a lot of homes, you have to start somewhere,” he says. “We think this is an excellent start.” He received support from Marcels Hulst of the VVD. “It has been said for years that we should build more. It’s great that it can finally go ahead.”

Ekelenberg is a former recreation park that closed in 2008. It was then cleaned up and made available for housing. Last year it was already announced that 59 homes, six commuter plots and a residential care complex will be built. The new plan will increase the total number of houses to well over 120.
