Cost pressure is the most serious problem for the fashion trade

German textile, shoe and leather goods retailers are currently suffering from sharply increased costs. This is the result of a survey, the results of which were published by the Textile Shoes Leather Goods Trade Association (BTE) on Friday. “Especially in the areas of energy, rent and also with the employees”, the expenses have recently increased significantly, the industry organization explained.

The association had asked the participating companies to rate the currently most serious problems “on a scale from 1 (no problem) to 10 (very big problem)”. In the ranking determined on this basis, the “high cost increases” took the top spot with an average value of 8.0 points. “Increasing bureaucracy” (7.6 points) and “increasing purchase and sales prices” (7.0 points) followed in second and third place.

In view of the survey results, BTE general manager Rolf Pangels appealed to those responsible: “The suppliers must now speed up so that the fashion, shoe and leather goods retailers, who have been particularly hard hit in the last three years, finally get security and relief,” he explained in a statement . However, this should under no circumstances “be associated with further bureaucratic hurdles”.
