The festival edition of cosquin 2023, held at the Prospero Molina Squarehad the dancers Facundo and Ezequiel Posse as the protagonists of a controversial controversy on social networks, when the brothers, originally from Buenos Aires, kissed in their folkloric presentation at the legendary Cordovan event.
“It is not an act for Cosquín. Regrettable. They mix everything. You can do something sublime without questioning whether you’re straight, gay or whatever. What are they wanting to convey? It is not the place, it seems to me”, “They break everything, now also traditions”, “This Cosquín 2023 decline. If Atahualpa gets up, he sets the stage on fire”, were some of the comments posted on Twitter and other social networks.
The comments did nothing more than show that, in terms of native music, gender-related ruptures are not fully accepted and conservative positions triumph. Unlike tango, for example, where inclusion advances and there are even dance styles such as queer tango.
The couple of the Posse brothers, winners of the Pre-Cosquín, always stood out in their native choreographies for a certain challenge to the established. “It never seems like we stray far enough from our comfort zone; We are searching for new techniques, to return to our field and enrich it”, explained the artists in the presentations made in previous years.
At last year’s Cosquin festival, the inclusion of the trans folklore singer Ferni de Gyldenfeldt it also represented a challenge to the tradition of the most famous indigenous music festival in the country. “The status quo that only contemplates the identities of men and women was broken, and my presence was disruptive,” the transgender artist declared at the time.
In that edition, when the artist appeared to participate in the Pre-Cosquín, she found it impossible to sign up due to her gender identity and expression. She made the corresponding claim in the INADI, with the result of the modification of the categories of “female” and “male” voices, creating the category “vocal soloist”.
The transgender singer was then able to participate in the musical competition. She was chosen as representative of the headquarters of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires and she had the opportunity to sing in front of a large audience in the final of the contest in the heart of Cordoba.
