They were once best friends, but after an argument over a song, they didn’t speak for 15 years. That the hatchet between Corry Konings and John de Bever has now been buried is proven by the latest song by the Brabant leaders of the life song. A duet called ‘A friend for life’.
“It is a very beautiful song that we can be proud of,” said Konings on Sunday KRAAK, the talk show of Omroep Brabant. “It also applies to us. It couldn’t be better.”
The singer has been in the business for 53 years now. She did think about quitting, but it never happened. “That’s made of it. That suddenly appeared in a magazine. But as long as my voice stays good, I can continue to sing wonderfully. It also keeps you young if you stay busy and don’t just sit still. I still enjoy it immensely, especially when people sing along or shed a tear.”
“Sometimes I think a song is hit sensitive and I feel that now with the song with John.”
And that sometimes happens, because Konings’ songs are often about tears and sadness. “Indeed, often about misery, but people have also been through quite a lot. Then you can find yourself in my songs.”
The singer from Berkel-Enschot hopes that her latest record will become just as much of a hit as, for example, ‘Crying is too late for you’ or ‘Nice was that time’. “Sometimes you think you have a hit and the song still flops. Which can. But it also happens that I feel that a song is hit sensitive and that is also the case with the song with John.”
