Correction of provisional social assistance budgets 2024 – information for municipalities | News item

News item | 27-12-2023 | 13:51

The provisional budgets for social assistance benefits and LKS 2024 have been adjusted because the underlying CBS data on rental properties owned by housing associations had not been derived correctly in all cases.

In a limited number of municipalities, a number of homes have been mistakenly not classified as housing associations, as a result of which the benefit probability of households in these homes has been estimated too low in the 2024 distribution model. This has led to the social assistance budget for the municipalities concerned being set too low.

Statistics Netherlands has corrected the microdata relating to housing association housing and the provisional budgets for 2024 have been recalculated based on the corrected data. The municipalities of IJsselstein, Amsterdam, Nijmegen, Krimpenerwaard and Wageningen are improving as a result of the budget correction. This reduces the budget share of all other municipalities that are partly or completely objectively budgeted. This concerns small decreases of a maximum of 0.08%. The budgets of small municipalities (<15,000 inhabitants) remain unchanged, because their budgets are determined historically.

Only those municipalities that receive a higher budget as a result of the correction will receive a new decision for the provisional budget for 2024. For the other municipalities, the slight decrease in the budget share will be processed in the final decisions for 2024.

The adjusted provisional budgets for 2024 and the online specification of the budgets can be found in the attachment below.
