Corona test obligation at Berlin schools extended until Pentecost

The Senate is shortening the isolation period for people infected with corona, but is extending compulsory testing in schools until Pentecost. BZ shows the changes made.

From Hildburg Bruns

► While there will no longer be a compulsory test in daycare centers from Monday, it will run in schools until Pentecost. But the students only have to test themselves on two days of the week instead of three.

Why the difference to day care centers? “There are very low numbers of infections there and there is no compulsory daycare either,” explains governing Franziska Giffey (44, SPD). The lollipop tests are being phased out and will be abolished from Monday.

It is different at the Berlin schools with their compulsory attendance: last week 1.7 million tests were issued, 2050 children were positive. And: According to a survey by the State Parents’ Committee, more than 90 percent of the parents surveyed were in favor of an extension.

► A person who tests positive only has to isolate themselves for five days – provided they have been symptom-free for 48 hours and the nasal swab at a test site is negative. Otherwise, the isolation ends in any case after ten days.

Brandenburg followed suit on Tuesday evening: Here, too, the isolation is to be reduced to five days after a positive corona test, and a final free test is no longer necessary for the general population – the prerequisite for this is a 48-hour freedom from symptoms.

If there are still symptoms on the fifth day, the isolation is extended until two days of freedom from symptoms are achieved – but in the longest case to ten days.

► Where else does testing have to be done in Berlin?

In clinics: visitors, patients, employees – the hospitals decide for themselves to what extent.

In care facilities: visitors if they are neither vaccinated nor recovered. For residents at least once a week. For employees twice a week – they are unvaccinated, daily.

Since the corona situation in Berlin has improved significantly, the Senate will only deal with the topic every two weeks.
