The German weightlifter Simon Brandhuber had to cancel his start at the World Championships in Bogota a few hours before the competition due to an infection with the corona virus. This was announced by the Federal Association of German Weightlifters (BVDG) on Wednesday.
The Vice European Champion and athlete of the AV 03 Speyer should start in the class up to 61 kg. “We very much regret this, because Simon wanted to lay the foundation for the beginning of a successful Olympic qualification,” the association said in a statement. Brandhuber is “doing well given the circumstances”.
The title fights in Colombia are the first qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
