It was rolled out nationally about a year and a half ago: the CoronaMelder app. “We must do everything we can to curb the spread of the virus,” said Hugo de Jonge, then Minister of Health, about the app.
After launch, there was only one thing to do about the deployment of the CoronaMelder. Concerns were raised about safeguarding privacy, and users were not notified for two days after an issue was identified. There are also doubts about how many infected contacts the application can detect exactly.
Incidentally, the CoronaMelder app was the first to be used in Drenthe, from mid-August. Later, in October, this started to apply to the whole of the Netherlands. In our province it was a trial. Overijssel and part of Gelderland were also part of this.
According to the current Minister of Health, Ernst Kuipers, it is not certain that the Corona Reporter will be over for good, for example if large-scale testing becomes common again.
