The infected foreign persons on board, who had to remain on board in their cabin, have now been received by medical authorities in northern Italy. Others living near Genoa were allowed to go home and must remain in quarantine there.
According to port authorities, the cruise ship will continue its journey to Civitavecchia, northwest of Rome, where the corona-positive passengers from central and southern Italy will disembark. Most of the affected passengers on MSC Grandiosa are from Italy, according to media reports.
Earlier this week, corona put an end to two other cruise trips around the turn of the year. Nearly 3000 passengers on the Aida Nova of Aida Cruises and about 2000 on board Mein Schiff 6 of the TUI Cruises company are on their way home after corona broke out on board. The Mein Schiff 6 ended the journey in Dubai.
Aida Cruises decided to stop the cruise of the Aida Nova in Lisbon after several infections on board. Of the more than 1,300 people on board, 60 are said to be infected with corona. They are housed in hotels for isolation.
