Telstar will face Almere City tomorrow afternoon without Andries Jonker. The head coach is infected with the corona virus. That is not the only setback for the Velsenaren within the technical staff. Assistant Michael Dingsdag and the goalkeeper coach also have corona. It seems that the player group has been free from infections.
“It is especially bad for them”, midfielder Sven van Doorm responds to the corona outbreak within the technical staff. “They also want to be on the field with us. We then said that we should just focus on the game against Almere City.”
Correia and Landvreugd
The two other assistant trainers Antony Correia and Uli Landvreugd tested negative on Saturday morning. If that is also the case tomorrow, they will be on the bench against Almere City. Both assistants were not present at the final training due to their other duties. Correia is head coach of VV Katwijk and Landvreugd of AFC. The training in Velsen-Zuid was therefore led by Telstar’s head youth academy Rory Roubos and equipment man/recovery trainer Dirk van der Lugt.
Telstar has started the new calendar year very creditably. After a narrow defeat against leader FC Volendam, the White Lions won against MVV and Jong Ajax. In the KNVB Cup, Andries Jonker’s team lost 2-1 to PSV after a well-deserved lead in the first half.
Injuries
So far there have been no corona infections in the player group, but many players are missing due to injuries. Anwar Bensabouh, Niels van Wetten, Ozan Kökcü, Delvechio Blackson, Yaël Liesdek, Anthony Berenstein, Tom Overtoom and Randy Wolters are not among them against Almere City. The match in Flevoland starts at 2.30 pm.
