Corona news: on the way to half a million positive tests in a week

As of today, the corona certificate is only valid in the European Union as a travel pass without additional requirements for those who have been fully vaccinated less than nine months ago. Dutch people who have had their last COVID-19 jab before May 1, either one from Janssen or two shots from the other approved vaccines, need a booster to be able to go on holiday without fuss.

The arrangement is the result of an agreement between all EU countries on the validity of a maximum of 270 days or nine months for the European vaccination certificate and the agreement to realign the travel rules. Countries such as Austria and Italy, which introduced additional requirements for travelers from high-risk countries such as the Netherlands at the end of last year, have also agreed to this.

In principle, anyone who has a valid European Digital Corona Certificate (DCC) should not be subject to additional restrictions, such as tests or quarantine, regardless of the place in the EU from which they leave, the new rules state. Many countries also use the QR code system for access to, for example, the catering industry, museums or public transport. There are no European agreements on this. Each Member State is free to make its own rules for domestic purposes.
