Corona incidence in Berlin increases slightly again

From BZ editors

After falling sharply due to the lack of public holiday values, the corona incidence in Berlin rose again slightly for the first time.

The reading is 189.7 on Thursday. A day earlier the incidence was 179.6.

The incidence indicates how many people per 100,000 inhabitants have been shown to have been newly infected with the corona virus in the past seven days.

According to the Senate situation report, there were new infections on Thursday 1912. Since the beginning of the pandemic in spring 2020, more than a million infections have already been registered in the capital.

Three more deaths were reported. A total of 4616 deaths were counted in connection with corona infections.

However, experts assume that many corona cases are not recorded because positive rapid tests are not always followed by a PCR test. Only these are counted in the statistics. In addition, not all health authorities report their data on a daily basis, so there may be a delay, especially at weekends and at the beginning of the week.

The situation in the districts

All districts reported new numbers on Thursday. Most new infections were in Lichtenberg (+439), the fewest in Spandau (+76).

► With the seven-day incidence, all districts are below the 500 mark: Hotspot is Lichtenberg for the first time with an incidence of 436.3. Behind follows Marzahn-Hellersdorf with 347.7.

Spandau has the lowest incidence with 109.0. All other districts are between 100 and 200.

The status of vaccinations

79.4 percent (previous day: 79.4) of Berliners have been vaccinated at least once. 75.5 percent (previous day: 75.5) have the basic immunization or are fully vaccinated. 61.2 percent (previous day: 61.1) have received a booster vaccination or have been boosted.

The Berlin Corona traffic light

In order to include a more meaningful indicator in the Corona traffic light, the relative change in the seven-day incidence was replaced by the hospitalization incidence. The seven-day incidence and the occupancy of the intensive care beds remain unchanged.

► At the New infections per 100,000 inhabitants – equivalent to the seven-day incidence for all of Berlin – according to the management report, the value is 189.7 (previous day: 179.6) – the traffic light is RED.

► The Seven-day hospitalization incidence is 4.9 (previous day: 4.9) – the traffic light is YELLOW.

This indicator shows how many people per 100,000 inhabitants were hospitalized after a corona infection within a week. The indicator is green when the value is below 4. From 4 the traffic light switches to yellow, at 8 to red.

► The Utilization of intensive care beds by corona patients is 3.5 percent (previous day: 3.9) – the traffic light is GREEN.

The yellow limit here is 5 percent, and this traffic light also turns red at 20 percent.
