ATHENS (dpa-AFX) – Greek wedding planners and clergymen are expecting a real boom in marriages in 2022. Even large weddings with up to 400 guests are conceivable again because Corona is no longer so threatening thanks to vaccinations and the number of people who have recovered, the daily newspaper “Kathimerini” reported on Monday.
Since the beginning of the corona pandemic in spring 2020, numerous marriages have failed due to the ever stricter corona regulations. The paper quoted a bride-to-be who is planning the party for the third time. “I just want to be with my loved ones and finally wear this wedding dress that I’ve seen hanging on the hanger since 2020,” said the young Greek.
Many foreigners who wish to marry have also had to cancel their dream wedding in Greece in recent years. However, wedding planner Daphne Timmers does not yet see a real boom in this target group. She specializes in hooking up couples on the picturesque Sporades island of Skopelos. “I collect weddings that don’t happen,” she said. People are still afraid that there could be corona measures again. The war in Ukraine also created uncertainties.
Since 2020, Timmers’ business has been sluggish. “Especially customers from Australia and the USA, who have a long way to go and who are often planning very large companies, are still hesitating.” To be on the safe side, they would probably postpone the big day until next year – there are already a number of bookings for 2023, says the specialist./axa/DP/ngu
