Corona as the evil stepmother of the dark-haired Rapunzel

Argentine photographer Irina Werning has been looking for women with long hair for fifteen years. When she returned home after a stay in Europe, she noticed that Latin American hair tends to be longer than European haircuts. Growing the hair, she found, has a native background. ‘It is said: the hair is an extension of ideas.’

Three years ago, she found Antonella, daughter of Paraguayan immigrants, then 10 years old, with black locks reaching past the knees like a dark-haired Rapunzel. The girl who lives with her parents and sister just outside Buenos Aires became her muse, her hair an infinite source of inspiration: fluttering in the wind, draped over a table, or spread out in graceful braids like octopus tentacles.
