Cornald Maas speaks to SBS 6 again after an explosion of anger

Cornald Maas has spoken to a Shownieuws camera crew after he threatened earlier for the entire Eurovision press accreditation of the SBS 6 programme to withdraw.

It could be wrong: less than a month ago, Cornald Maas threatened to withdraw Shownieuws’ entire press accreditation, as a result of which the program could not be present at the Eurovision Song Contest. The reason? After the debacle of the out of tune Mia & Dion, no one gave home, including Cornald. So the program rang his doorbell.

Sad horn

Cornald was in all states and also started blocking all kinds of Shownieuws stars on Instagram. That’s why they called him a ‘sorrow horn’. That same ‘sorrow horn’ was just to be seen again in the program last night.

When he returned to Schiphol, just after the grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest, Cornald simply spoke to the Shownieuws camera crew. “We have qualified every time but two years for the past ten years – and this is a tune I have played in my head a few times,” he explains this year’s debacle.

Eurovision heart

The top ten has been reached three times, says Cornald. “And three times eleventh. I think you should at least make it to the finals every year and preferably reach the top ten, but it didn’t work out once. It can happen, I say with my Eurovision heart, because of course I really want it to work out and that you finish as high as possible.”

Why did Mia & Dion never have to sing live in front of the selection committee before being chosen? “We also talked to Dion & Mia and sat down with Duncan a few times. Indeed, they did not sing, that was missing, but that has not happened in previous years.”

Sneak at Duncan

Cornald continues: “In fact, the selection committee did what the selection committee always does: choose the song and then it’s out of our hands. And then you give it to the creative team, in this case Duncan and his colleagues, who have to shape that. Obviously some things didn’t go quite right there, to say the least.”

In that case, Cornald could have played a little less well, says Ronald Molendijk. “If it really is the way he tells it now, that you only decide the song, then it’s fine, but then you just have to let it go afterwards. And then when it’s bad, you just have to step forward and say, ‘Well, I think it’s really bad.’”

Patty Brard: “No, because if you say that you will be blocked.”

‘Very nice’

Ronald thinks it’s good that Cornald is now a bit more honest. “Now when I hear what Cornald says, I think: well, that’s exactly the feeling we all had. Some things didn’t go right. To way the least. Then I think: just give that to the Netherlands when you talk about it, instead of saying: ‘Imperfectly sung!’”

That is simply not true, he continues. And it wasn’t the in-ears either. I am very pleased that Cornald Maas is speaking to us again.”

‘Not true!’

AvroTros boss Frits Huffnagel: “You talk a lot about Cornald, but Cornald isn’t the problem there, is it? In fact, he always wants to talk to everyone.

Patty: “That’s not true at all.”

Frits: “That’s true.”
