A window of the so-called asylum hotel in Albergen was broken in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday because someone threw a corn cob through it. The police confirmed this on Wednesday after reporting from RTV Oost.
According to RTV Oost, several corn cobs were thrown, but the police spokesperson does not know how many exactly. The police are investigating the matter and are reviewing CCTV footage. A neighborhood survey is also being conducted.
The Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) placed surveillance cameras at the asylum hotel on Tuesday after a fire was set here earlier this week. This fire, which raged in bushes there, did not cause any major damage.
Hotel ‘t Elshuys was bought by the COA to turn it into an asylum seekers’ center. The announcement of this caused concern. The former owner of the building lost a lawsuit on Monday in which she tried to reverse the sale. COA hopes to accommodate the first asylum seekers in the former hotel by the end of September.
