Corentin Tolisso leaves FC Bayern after five years on a free transfer. He’s not particularly happy about that. Now he expresses himself Frenchman – and speaks of communication problems.
Corentin Tolisso expresses disappointment about his departure from Bayern Munich. After his contract with the record champions was not extended and he had to look for a new club for the coming season, the 27-year-old bucked the Munich team in an interview with the French sports newspaper “L’Equipe”.
“I hadn’t heard from the club for three weeks. I told my agent to call and the decision was already made,” Tolisso recalled. He received a lot of support from coach Julian Nagelsmann, but also admitted: “I don’t think the coach had enough influence in this context to say that he wanted to keep this player.”
Tolisso moved from Olympique Lyon to Säbener Straße in the summer of 2017 for the then Munich record sum of 41.5 million euros. However, the 2018 world champion was never able to live up to the high expectations. Due to many injuries, the midfielder did not get stuck in the starting eleven and made many of his 118 appearances for Bayern as a substitute. Where Tolisso will play in the future is not yet known.
Correction: A previous version of this article stated that Tolisso had accused FC Bayern of systematic discrimination. This is not true. A quote distributed by a parody portal was incorrectly assigned to the interview from “L’Equipe”. We apologize for this error.
