Cops get adventurous donkey off the track at Ede: ‘He kept resisting’ | NOW

Donkey on the track. Community police officer Peter Bouw can add that to his list of special reports. He took the animal off the chicken line between Ede and Lunteren on Tuesday morning. “I’ve never experienced this.”

On his Instagram account, the police officer of Ede Centrum shares a photo of the donkey, which is quietly standing on the verge while a train ‘poses’ in the background; the chicken line from Ede to Amersfoort.

“The trains drove at a walking pace,” says Bouw. “ProRail has cameras around the track and a driver may have seen it too. I do not know.”

The local police officer and his colleague found the donkey near the Peteweg in Lunteren along the track. “The animal was quietly grazing. When we came to it with our ‘Yellow Vests’, he became a bit restless and ran away from us.”

Donkey tries to escape

A farmer coming from the other side drove the donkey back. At that moment, a train approached at a walking pace. “I had that stopped,” says Bouw. “The owner of the donkey also just joined. We then enclosed the animal so that the train could pass.”

The donkey tried to escape on the track, but the farmer managed to grab the animal. “He continued to resist.” The owner managed to put a harness on the donkey, who was then taken to his stable.

The police officer: “The animal had escaped from a meadow on the track. A few planks were broken. It was not clear why. After the damage was repaired, he was put back in the meadow.”
