Copenhagen Fashion Week introduces AW23 labels that have to meet sustainable requirements

Copenhagen Fashion Week (CPHFW) has announced that the selection of participating labels for the Fall/Winter 2023 edition will be the first season in which all participating brands must meet 18 minimum sustainability standards to be part of the official programme.

The event, which runs from 31 January to 3 February 2023, features 29 brands, including established names such as Ganni, Helmstedt, Saks Potts and Stine Goya, as well as up-and-coming labels such as A. Roege Hove, (Di)vision, OpéraSport and Garments. All have been approved by the CPHFW Show Committee and the CPHFW Sustainability Committee chaired by Rambøll and supported by Dansk Fashion and Textile and In Futurum.

In a statement, CPHFW said each brand was selected based on both fashion design criteria and consideration of the entire value chain. The organization added that they meet the 18 minimum standards of the 2020-2022 Sustainability Action Plan, relating to strategic direction, design, choice of smart materials, working conditions, consumer engagement and production.

“Three years ago we announced that Copenhagen Fashion Week in 2023 would introduce mandatory minimum standards that brands must meet in order to be included in the show schedule. We just wanted to rethink our platform and use our position to help accelerate the sustainability efforts of the fashion brands that make up Copenhagen Fashion Week,” commented Cecilie Thorsmark, Managing Director of Copenhagen Fashion Week.

“Since then we have been working closely with the brands to support them through various knowledge sharing activities and to prepare them for a full bid process this season. I am very impressed with the commitment with which the brands have taken the necessary steps to meet the minimum standards,” added Thorsmark.
