Real Madrid has won the Spanish Football Cup for the 20th time. In the final in Seville, the “Royals” beat outsiders CA Osasuna 2-1 (1-0) on Saturday (May 6th, 2023).
Rodrygo gave Madrid the lead in the second minute. After Lucas Torró equalized (58′), Rodrygo’s second goal (70′) ensured that the trophy went back to Real for the first time since 2014. In an overall racy game, Osasuna was by no means hiding. Despite falling behind early on due to a quick move by the Madrilenians via winger Vinicius Junior, who then found Rodrygo in the centre, the Pamplona club sought salvation on the offensive.
Real’s Dani Carvajal scraped a lob from Barca loanee Abde Ezzalzouli off the line (28′). A little later, David Alaba hit the bar with a free kick for the “Royal” (32nd). At the beginning of the second half it looked like that, so the favorite should be able to control the game.
Rodrygo’s second goal brings the title
But after a rebound from the Real defense, Torró scored the 1-1 equalizer with a precise shot into the bottom left corner and caused great euphoria in the Osasuna fans’ block. However, that didn’t last long. Again, Vinicius Junior messed up the Osasuna defense with an attack. An attempted shot by Toni Kroos then landed on Rodrygo, who shot in coldly to make it 2-1.
Despite a great deal of effort, Osasuna was unable to make a comeback and Real Madrid were able to celebrate winning the cup with Manchester City three days before the duel in the Champions League semifinals.
