Coornhert scraps havo and vwo exam stunts after unrest: “School hermetically closed”

The exam stunts of havo and vwo at the Coornhert Lyceum in Haarlem will not take place on Friday. The school management informed the parents. On Thursday morning, a stunt by the secondary school students got completely out of hand and the police had to be involved.

A group of students threw things outside the building and smoke bombs were set off inside. Police arrested one student. The arrest can be seen on images that NH Nieuws has in its possession. The student tries to run away, but is roughly knocked to the ground by an officer, while other students watch the arrest happen before their eyes.

To keep the other students safe, the school building was hermetically sealed. The mother of a first grade student says that her daughter had to stay in the classroom for at least two hours. “She came home and said that dozens of final exam candidates were adrift. That is not exactly a nice introduction to the phenomenon of exam stunt.”

“She can go to school tomorrow, but where do I send her?”

Second grade student mother

“I have no words for it,” she continues. “You can also see the polarization in society in the schools. I think that’s why it gets out of hand faster. So the schools also get that problem on their plate.” When asked if she still wants to send her daughter to school tomorrow, the mother replies: “Of course she can go to school tomorrow, but where do I send her?”

It was rumored among students of the Coornhert that the exam stunts had also gotten out of hand at other secondary schools in Haarlem. The police do not want to provide any information at this time.

Party committee

In any case, Rector Claasje Quadekker of Sancta Maria can report that things went smoothly at her school. “I just received some beautiful photos. The students are partying on the beach tonight and hugging each other.

The school management of the Sancta tries to do everything possible to keep exam stunts fun. Quadekker: “We organize it together with the students. Every exam candidate should be able to finish his school time with pleasure. Most students naturally want that too. It’s a pity if a small group ruins that.”
