British-American Andrew Tate, a former professional kickboxer, and his brother Tristan are facing charges of rape and exploitation. They are also being held on suspicion of organized crime and human trafficking. On December 29 last year, the Tate brothers were arrested in Romania, after which they ended up in jail. Tate, 36, and his brother deny the allegations.
A ruling by a Bucharest appeals court states that it “rejects the proposal to extend the term of pre-trial detention of the defendants Tate III Emory Andrew, Tate Tristan”. “The court replaces the measure of preventive detention of the defendants with the preventive measure of house arrest for a period of thirty days,” it still sounds. The document concludes that it “orders the immediate release of the defendants.”
Andrew Tate has millions of followers on social media. He has been banned from platforms such as Twitter and Instagram in the past for his hate speech towards women. Leaked court documents, according to the BBC, contain testimonies from alleged victims who claim to have been forced to earn €10,000 a month on social media platforms under the threat of violence. Prosecutors have identified six women as victims.
