Controversial influencer Andrew Tate loses appeal, stays longer in custody | show

The controversial American-British influencer Andrew Tate will remain detained until at least the end of February. The Bucharest Court has also ruled on appeal that Tate must be remanded in custody for 30 days longer.

Tate was arrested at the end of December, as well as his brother and two Romanian women, who are also suspected of human trafficking, rape and forming a criminal organization, among other things. Tate, 36, was hiding near the Romanian capital Bucharest, where he was arrested on December 29.

Last week, a Romanian court ruled that Tate had to be remanded in custody for 30 days longer. Tate disagreed with that ruling and appealed Wednesday. He lost the case, meaning the influencer will remain in jail until at least February 27.

Prosecutors believe Tate, his brother and the two Romanians are behind a criminal organization whose purpose is to “recruit, harbor and exploit women by forcing them to produce pornographic material that can be viewed online for a fee.” The brothers would have made a lot of money from it. Tate denies all allegations and previously asked the judge for release, but he did not agree. The criminal investigation has been ongoing since the beginning of this year. Prosecutors have identified at least six women who were allegedly sexually exploited by the suspects.

Andrew Tate, a former professional kickboxer, was first discredited in 2016 when he was kicked out of the TV show Big brother was put because it was recorded how he attacked a woman. After being kicked out of the program, Tate wrote on Twitter that “women must take responsibility for sexual abuse.” He was subsequently banned from various social media channels. Since Elon Musk took over Twitter, Tate has his account back.
