The controversial dog breeder from Eersel will not get his 435 confiscated dogs back. However, he can keep the 159 dogs he still has for the time being. The judge ruled that on Thursday morning. Breeder Jan Paridaans is furious: “They lie, I don’t give up easily.”
The dog breeder is angry with the municipality, House of Animals and the NVWA. The municipality does not allow breeding, the NVWA seized more than four hundred dogs during a raid and House of Animals demands that the other 159 dogs be removed immediately.
“If the NVWA says ten words, they are lying a hundred.”
At a scheduled check last week, 435 dogs were taken. The breeder had been given a month earlier to improve the conditions for the animals, but some of the dogs turned out to be in worse shape.
Jan and his wife demanded their dogs back in court. But on Thursday morning, the judge ruled that the NVWA does not have to return the animals.
Paridaans is furious: “If the NVWA says ten words, they are lying a hundred,” he told Omroep Brabant on Thursday. According to a spokesperson for the regulator, hundreds of dogs were living in poor conditions and the proper care was not provided. “Think of dirty pens and drinking troughs, wet and matted dogs and dogs with mange and tartar.”
Paridaans continues to deny that he takes bad care of his dogs. “The dogs were not in wet pens at all. Every day the kennels are cleaned, every day they get fresh water and every day the dogs are well taken care of.”
How is it possible that images from the NVWA show something different? “If you come in here with sixty to seventy people, the dogs become aggressive and they start jumping. Then drinking troughs fall over and the dogs get wet.” Last week’s raid will get a tail if it’s up to the breeder. “I don’t give up that easily.”
“It’s mafia. I don’t understand how they can get so much done.”
On Wednesday there was also bad news for the breeder from Eersel. The municipality of Eersel does not allow dog breeding on the Grote Aardweg in Eersel. Paridaans thought that was not fair and appealed. But the highest court also brushed aside the breeder’s objections. And so all dogs must be gone in six weeks, otherwise a fine of up to 25,000 euros will follow.
“Officially I have not heard anything about it yet, I have to read it through the media,” Jan Paridaans responds on Thursday afternoon. “I’m tired of fighting. I’ve always fought but I don’t feel like it anymore.” Still, he doesn’t want to talk about quitting, something animal organization House of Animals would like to see.
The breeder does not have a good word about that organization. “It’s mafia. I don’t understand how they can get so much done.” Nevertheless, Jan Paridaans was proved right by the court on one point: he is allowed to keep the 159 dogs left behind by the NVWA for the time being. House of Animals wanted to enforce through the courts that these are also confiscated.
