This week, the municipality of Eersel carried out a third inspection at the controversial Brabant breeder on the Grote Aardweg. Again, inspectors found dogs, even more than last time. Again, the municipality imposed a penalty.
This week the inspectors counted 180 dogs, two more than at the previous inspection a week ago. Again, the municipality imposed a penalty of 2500 euros on the breeder, just like the past two weeks. At the end of March, inspectors still counted about 200 dogs.
The Council of State decided at the beginning of February that the dog breeder had to stop his business in Eersel in mid-March, but the breeder did not do that. The municipality then started imposing penalty payments two weeks ago.
The municipality has been checking every week since then, for a total of ten weeks. The maximum penalty is 25,000 euros if the breeder does not close his business.
Last Wednesday, the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority NVWA also participated in the inspection, but a spokeswoman could not say anything about this on Friday morning.
Previously, during inspections by the NVWA, it appeared that the welfare of the animals was at stake and that the administration was not in order. During an earlier inspection this year, the NVWA took 435 dogs from the breeder that were not in good shape. Then 159 were left behind.
