Controversial breeder in Eersel still keeps dogs: control is being stepped up

At the controversial Kwispel Enzo in Eersel, eight dogs were found by municipal enforcers last Monday. The dog breeder had to watch earlier this year how the NVWA took 667 neglected animals. A breeding ban also applies to the company on the Grote Aardweg. Because of the discovery of the eight animals, the municipality will now step up the checks. “We now visit the company every week.”

Enforcers did not find the eight dogs in the house, but in ‘the company building’ where dogs used to be. “We are now investigating whether the dogs are kept commercially, or privately, as the owner himself indicates,” says a spokeswoman for the municipality of Eersel. “We are unpleasantly surprised that dogs have been found again, despite the fact that the cease and desist order was first complied with.”

“Can not believe it.”

It touches animal protectors of House of Animals deeply that dogs have been discovered again at the ‘horror breeder’. “I can hardly believe it and I am in shock,” says Karen Soeters.

She personally made the abuses public, warned the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) and filed a police report on behalf of House of Animals, which also led to a criminal case. The criminal investigation is still ongoing.

“The system in the Netherlands is no good.”

Soeters finds it bizarre that breeder Jan Paridaans has dogs again. “The system in the Netherlands is no good. Someone who removes hundreds of dogs because of the harrowing living conditions in which they live should never be able to keep animals again.”

House of Animals advocates a lifelong ban on keeping dogs from Eersel. “The law that makes this possible will not take effect until January 1. This situation shows that such a lifelong ban on keeping animals is very much needed and should be given sooner rather than later,” says Soeters.

“A slap in the face for all involved.”

In May, the last 157 dogs were removed from Kwispel Enzo by the NVWA. The company was immediately shut down by the NVWA because abuses were detected for the umpteenth time. House of Animals was relieved at the time, especially because the dogs were given a chance for a better future, explains Soeters. “The fact that there are dogs again is a slap in the face to everyone involved.”

She does not only refer to her own organization by this. “It also affects the people who removed all those animals from there. Or how about all those shelters where dogs are still recovering?”, it sounds fierce. and the man who caused that is just keeping dogs again.”

The breeder was previously imposed a penalty by the municipality of Eersel, because breeding dogs on the site on the Grote Aardweg is contrary to the zoning plan. A fine of 2500 euros was imposed eight times before the company was shut down by the NVWA.

“We’re going to check every week.”

In recent months, the municipality has regularly checked whether dogs were still present at the address. “Now that animals have been discovered again, we will check every week. We work closely with other government agencies to see what should be done with these eight dogs.”
