Control action on hands-free driving takes a day longer

All week, police have been checking for cell phone-in-hand driving or other distraction while driving. Dozens of people were immediately fined 174 euros. Immediately withdrawing the driving license, as in East Flanders, among others, does not yet happen with us. But the public prosecutor does not rule out the possibility that this will be the case in the longer term.

All week long there have been checks for distraction everywhere, in the broad sense of the word.

“If you don’t focus on traffic, an accident can happen quickly: you are distracted, you hit a cyclist, you don’t drive in a straight line,” Toon Fonteyne of the Spoorkin police zone said.

For Governor Decaluwé it may be at least as strict as with our neighbors from East Flanders. He aimed for an extra inspection day and he regularly insists on more road safety.
