SM league club Oulun Kärpät says on its website that the defender Mikko Niemelän the contract has been terminated.
– Kärpät wants to thank Niemelä, who rose to fame as a cult player, for his very long career at the club – he has been involved in many different success stories. We wish you all the best and good luck for the future. “Mise’s” personality, actions and playing in yellow and black will certainly not be forgotten by Kärppie supporters or fellow players, Kärppie development director Lasse Kukkonen says in the club’s press release.
Niemelä, 32, is a Kärppie graduate who was part of the team’s captaincy in 2020–22. In the middle of last season, the man who won three Finnish championships went to Brynäs of the Swedish SHL on loan.
