Hertha captain Marvin Plattenhardt’s contract, which expires at the end of the season, will not be extended. This was confirmed by the sporting director of the Berlin Bundesliga team, Fredi Bobic, on Thursday “Picture”. “The contract expires in the summer, that has been decided and clearly discussed with the player and his advisors,” Bobic told the newspaper.
The decision was made in the fall
The 30-year-old full-back switched from Nuremberg to Hertha in 2014 and has played 221 competitive games for the club since then. At the beginning of the current season he was appointed team captain by head coach Sandro Schwarz.
He recently caused a stir because, because of his vaccination status, could not travel to the training camp in the USA and thus missed important preparation time with the team. “It’s his decision, we discussed it with him. You can’t force a player to get vaccinated. It was important to us that he could train – he does that in Berlin with the U23s,” explained Bobic.
According to Bobic, the decision not to extend his contract was made in the fall.
