From 2007 to 2019, Franck Ribéry laced up the football shoes for FC Bayern, advanced to become the guarantor of the title, crowd favorite and club icon in Munich before moving to the Italian Serie A in 2019. Now, at the age of 39, the Frenchman is said to be on the verge of the end of his successful career.
The termination of Ribéry’s contract with the Italian first division club US Salernitana is said to be imminent. This is reported by the Italian football insider Gianluca Di Marzio.
Ribéry has been under contract in Salerno since September 2021 and collected 23 competitive games (3 assists) in 2021/22, but in the current season it was only enough for two short appearances. Before that, Ribéry played for two years in Florence.
Salernitana had extended Ribéry’s contract in the summer until 2023, according to the report, however, the realization has now matured that the veteran star wants to end his career after all. However, Ribéry should remain with the club in a different form, it is said.
124 goals for Bayern
The reason for the change of course should be physical complaints. Ribéry has been absent from his club for weeks with complaints.
Ribéry was also repeatedly injured at FC Bayern, but the winger played 425 games for the German record champions (124 goals/182 assists). The ex-France international also made 89 appearances at home for Olympique Marseille, 51 for Fiorentina and 21 for FC Metz. As a professional, Ribéry was also active for US Boulogne, Stade Brest and in Turkey for Galatasaray.
With FC Bayern, he won the German championship nine times, the DFB Cup six times and the Champions League in 2014. Ribéry was voted footballer of the year twice in Germany and once in France.
