Consultation between trade unions and Balta management starts
This is the first meeting of the so-called information and consultation phase.
The unions were very surprised at the size of the layoffs. “We knew something was going to happen, but we didn’t expect something of that magnitude,” says Renilde Rommens of ACV. “A first step in the consultation is to request figures and to inquire about the future plans of the management. Of course we also hope to drastically limit the number of redundancies.”
The news was announced last Wednesday during a special works council. According to the carpet manufacturer, it is no longer profitable to make wall-to-wall carpet in Belgium.
