Palestinian artist Mona Hatoum, who fled Lebanon and now lives in London, chose Our Lady’s Psychiatric Hospital as her location. She has an underground swing built there. Flight, alienation and captivity are common in her work. “The intention is for it to be a one-person swing, where you descend into the ground, have a kind of suffocating feeling, but can swing towards freedom and towards the horizon,” says curator Shendy Gardin.
