After two weeks of cycling fun, cyclists have to make do without the climb of the VAM-Berg in their cycle laps. The roads on the asphalted waste mountain will close again tomorrow. Recreational visitors can go up again on September 29.
In the summer, the VAM mountain was closed for six weeks for work, including asphalting the Dak van Drenthe. This time everything will be closed for set-up and take-down for the European Cycling Championships. “The VAM mountain is the finishing location of the road races and a closure is necessary to be able to safely supply and remove the necessary material for the European Championships.” The European Championships in Drenthe start on September 20.
Cyclists, mountain bikers and hikers are welcome again at the Col du VAM from September 29. “The new part, the ‘Dak van Drenthe’, cannot yet be used. It will open in the spring of 2024,” reports the province of Drenthe.
The southwest side of the VAM-Berg also takes on a different appearance in the autumn. Attero and GroenLeven will kick off the construction of a 35-hectare solar park in September.
