Construction companies activate heat plan

At nine o’clock in the morning the temperature already rises to 26 degrees at the trumpet connection in Kortrijk. Those temperatures are ideal working conditions, but a few hours later it is even warmer.

Relieving employees

Construction companies are activating their heat plan to relieve their employees of the oppressive heat, says Matthias Van Damme, COO of Stadsbader. “Our heat plan means that we start the works earlier, in a cooler part of the day. We start at six o’clock at our sites. What we also do on such hot days is extra cooled drinks, sun cream and light clothing for our people.”

Measures against heat and drought

Measures against the heat are popping up more and more often. It is also a planning challenge. “It is indeed true that we see a trend in our plans for extreme weather – a heat plan, a storm plan – that they are being put into action more in recent years. We also take that into account in our planning as much as possible.” , said Van Damme.

A sprinkler at the entrance to the yard and a tractor must keep dust away, because the drought is causing nuisance according to some local residents. The construction companies are doing what they can to limit any nuisance.
