“The car hasn’t improved at all,” Lewis Hamilton said after qualifying for the Miami Grand Prix. “It’s still exactly the same.” The Briton eventually drove to P6, his teammate George Russell already flew out in Q2 and will start from twelfth place on Sunday.
“I’m a bit confused to be honest,” Russell said after qualifying at SkySports. “I was slower in qualifying than yesterday in free practice 2. We just couldn’t attack the corners. The potential is there yes, we saw that yesterday. We were very fast, but today we didn’t come close.”
“It’s a bit hit and miss. The potential is there if all is well. Yesterday it looked like we would be competing for pole, but today I am twelfth. It all doesn’t make sense.”
Mercedes has had a particularly difficult start to the season and Hamilton has previously announced that he no longer believes in a world title. The car bounces over the track with great regularity and that problem did not appear to be solved this weekend either.

Team boss Toto Wolff stayed with SkySports positive: ,,We saw yesterday in the second free practice how this car can perform. But today we were completely wrong with the experiments we did. The car bounced like a kangaroo and the drivers are not happy about that. It’s the reason we’re falling behind, but we’ve learned what works and what doesn’t. Some things we understand and some things we don’t.”
Pole went to Charles Leclerc on Saturdaywho managed to stay ahead of Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz and Max Verstappen.
