Confusion about the red card for Bochum coach Thomas Reis

Thomas Reis was sent off in the away defeat in Freiburg. But that is apparently based on a misunderstanding. The coach himself wanted to clear up the confusion.

Coach Thomas Reis from VfL Bochum did some educational work with the referees after his red card in the league game at SC Freiburg (0:3) on Saturday. “I’m in the referee’s cabin to clarify it. It was noted in the game report. I have to wait and see what happens,” said the coach.

Reis was sent to the stands by referee Karsten Stegemann (Niederkassel) in the 69th minute. In the previous scene, VfL midfielder Konstantinos Stafylidis saw the red card after a foul on Freiburg’s double goal scorer Rolland Sallai.

“I did the ‘wipe’. I stand by that, but I meant my player. I definitely didn’t insult anyone, at most my player,” said Reis: “I noticed right away that the 4th official was referring to himself. That’s why I’m on the sidelines with him, but he didn’t get involved anymore.”
