Farewell to Shandong
Marouane Fellaini will leave Chinese club Shandong Taishan after five years. What happens next is not yet entirely clear at the moment. A report by transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano talks about continuing his career, citing information from the 35-year-old former Manchester United midfielder’s agent. On the other hand, someone who could actually know better had previously announced an end to the Belgian’s career.
Fellaini in 10th place: Belgian footballers with the highest transfer revenues
“Perhaps because of his age, recovery was quite laborious after a game where it would normally take a day or two,” Shandong coach Kang-hee Choi was quoted as saying in Chinese media. The South Korean coach, under whom Fellaini scored ten goals in 23 games, understands that the 87-time national player is now retiring.
What sounded like an announced end to his protégé’s career may have been meant differently by Choi. In any case, his agent seems to have intervened. Reporter Romano relays the information that Fellaini is now on the market as a free transfer player and is ready for a new chapter. In China he played 139 competitive games with 50 goals and twelve assists. At Everton FC and Manchester United, who once paid more than 21 million and more than 32 million euros for the player, Fellaini was on the pitch 177 times each. He recorded 59 goal involvements with the Blues and 34 with the “Red Devils”.
