Confused swimmer rescued from water after hours of searching hypothermia off the coast of Egmond aan Zee

A confused woman was rescued from the sea off the coast of Egmond aan Zee last night. She owes this to an alert witness who saw that the woman had entered the water, but did not return to the beach.

“This could certainly have been worse,” said a spokesman for the local Rescue Brigade.

The witness’ report was taken very seriously, also because the emergency services had found unattended items on the beach. The Egmond Rescue Brigade and KNRM were the first to go to sea, but the Coast Guard soon decided to call in reinforcements from other parts of the province.

After an hour of searching, the woman was found confused. At that time she was still able to keep her head above water, but her body temperature had already dropped considerably. Once on the beach, she was handed over to paramedics who took her to hospital for treatment.
