A 53-year-old man was arrested in Steenbergen on Sunday morning after a mad ride through the village, including crashing into the fence of the mayor’s house. He also hit a police car. The officers and the mayor are filing a complaint against the man.
The man’s motive is not yet clear, police said. He’s still stuck. “Because he showed seriously confused behavior, consultations are also taking place with health care authorities,” the police said.
Driving into a police car
Around nine o’clock the police received several reports of a passenger car that was driving in Steenbergen in a ‘very antisocial manner’.
Officers rushed to see the car in question driving straight towards them when they arrived on the scene. The officers were able to send their official car into the verge just in time to prevent the cars from colliding with each other.
Arrest
A little later, ‘a resident on Nassaulaan’ reported that a car had hit the entrance gate of his house, the police wrote in a press release. That resident later turned out to be the mayor of Steenbergen, Ruud van den Belt.
The driver of the car, a 53-year-old man from Steenbergen, was stopped at the mayor’s house by rushing officers. Both the car and the fence sustained heavy damage.
