Confused man leads emergency services to a possible explosive device in Eelde

A man has caused a lot of consternation twice today at the Oosterbroek in Eelde. According to the police, he showed confused behavior and made a threat. He later put investigative services on the trail for a possible explosive device.

The investigative services started a search this afternoon in the vicinity of Eelde, where the man would hide. That was in response to the threatening language he used. A police helicopter flew over the area and local residents were called upon to look out for the suspect via a Burgenet report.

A little later, the man reported to the police station and it emerged that there was an explosive in a building on Oosterbroek near Eelde. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service (EOD) detonated this tonight as a precaution. It is not known whether it is actually an explosive.

The man was arrested after his arrival at the police station because of the threat and involvement in the possible explosive device. The nature of the threat has not been disclosed by the police, nor is it clear to whom it is directed.
