Brendan Rodgers, who was sacked by Leicester City later in the Premier League in April, has joined Celtic Glasgow. The Scottish champions confirmed the partnership on Monday, and the 50-year-old coach signed a contract until 2026. Rodgers is returning to The Bhoys after four years, which he coached between 2016 and 2019.
Back then, the Northern Irishman averaged 2.24 points in 169 games with Celtic and won two championships and two cups as well as three Scottish League Cup winners. Rodgers then won the FA Cup with Leicester, best placement in the English House of Lords with the “Foxes” was fifth place. In Glasgow he succeeds Ange Postecoglou, who is moving to Tottenham Hotspur. The former Mönchengladbach coach Daniel Farke had previously been traded as a candidate for the Scots.
“I’m very excited to be returning to Celtic,” Rodgers said. When the opportunity arose, “the decision for me and my family was a very simple one”. “We’ve enjoyed some great times at Celtic and this will again be my goal: to deliver good football and make sure we have a team that we all love to see and ultimately bring more success to our fans.”
Managing Director Michael Nicholson added: “We are delighted to welcome Brendan as our new coach. He is a real quality and experienced football coach with a proven track record. The role of Celtic manager is attractive and highly sought after and during the process we considered many potential candidates. We are confident that with the appointment of Brendan we have found the best candidate for Celtic.”
