Confidence in Orange to lowest point: only 56 percent in favor of monarchy | show

From research of the television program One today under their own opinion panel, it appears that confidence in the royal couple has plummeted. Only 54 percent of those polled say they have confidence in King Willem-Alexander, compared to 63 percent last year. Before the corona crisis, this percentage was still well above 80 percent.

61 percent of the Dutch still have confidence in Máxima, against 69 percent in 2021. Never before, not even before the throne change in 2013, so few people had confidence in Willem-Alexander and Máxima.

Many of the respondents still have difficulty with the actions of the royal couple in times of corona, says Gijs Rademaker of the opinion panel. A majority finds the income of the Oranges and the compensation for personnel and expenses too high. Rademaker: ,, People have thought that for some time, but the dissatisfaction about this is deepened by the incidents in corona time. These elements piled up feed an image of a king who does not feel what is going on in society.”

Nevertheless, the members of the panel also see positive developments. 69 percent is positive about the reception of Ukrainian refugees at the Oude Loo and that Princess Amalia decided to return her allowance in the coming years, 88 percent of the respondents applauded.

When asked for tips to improve confidence in the monarchy, the panel responded differently. For example, they advise the Oranges’ to think more carefully about the consequences of your actions for the common man. And if you can’t, gather good critics around you.” Other tips are: Be more visible, hand in some money and hire another copywriter, who formulates more in plain language.
