Confidant of Michael Schumacher before comeback at Ferrari?

According to media reports, there could be a split between team boss Mattia Binotto and Ferrari in Formula 1. Potential successors have long been associated with the Scuderia – including a long-time companion of Michael Schumacher.

As “motorsportweek.com” With reference to the Italian newspaper “La Stampa”, Ross Brawn is under discussion at Ferrari for the role of Formula 1 team boss.

Mattia Binotto is still in charge of the traditional racing team. However, the future of the 53-year-old in Formula 1 is currently more than uncertain.

The largest newspapers in Italy reported in unison last Friday that Binotto is about to say goodbye to Ferrari.

There was speculation about a separation recently around the season finale in Abu Dhabi. Frederic Vasseur, who has been team boss at Alfa Romeo since 2017, is considered a hot candidate for the possible successor.

But apparently Brawn is also in the orbit of the Scuderia. The 68-year-old is certainly no stranger to Ferrari.

Between 1997 and 2006, the Brit worked for the Italians as technical director and played a large part in Michael Schumacher’s success during this time.

Formula 1: Mattia Binotto leaves Ferrari future open

Brawn is currently the sports director of Formula 1. It is unknown whether there is any truth to the speculation about a possible Ferrari return.

Especially since Binotto is still officially in office. A few days ago, when asked whether he would still be team boss at Ferrari in 2023, Binotto replied evasively: “It’s not up to me to decide, but I’m pretty relaxed. The reason I’m relaxed is because that I always have open, honest and constructive discussions with my bosses and my chairman”.

Binotto joined Scuderia in 1995 and served as engine engineer for Michael Schumacher during his Ferrari era. He later rose to technical director before replacing Maurizio Arrivabene as team boss in early 2019 after a power struggle.
