Conference League, Vitesse-Roma: Mourinho, do like Lazio

The biancocelesti won on the Dutch side in 2017, the Giallorossi have found success in the last two away matches against the Eredivisie club

Roma flies to Holland for the first leg of the Round of 16 of the Conference League. A goal that Vitesse earned by overturning Rapid Vienna in the play-offs: after the 2-1 for the Austrians in the first leg, the team coached by Thomas Letsch managed to win 2-0 at home thanks to goals from Adrian Grbic and Matus Bero at the start of the game. Important result, now for the Dutch there will be the first match in official matches against Roma: the first leg match is scheduled for Thursday at 21.

THE DUTCHERS

To try and direct the qualification, Vitesse need a home win. But the Dutch club has not found two consecutive successes in Europe in the same season since 2002. Then there is the balance sheet against Italian teams: only one victory in six previous ones, against Parma in the Uefa Cup in 1994. It was the first match against a Serie A club: since that moment there have been three draws and two defeats. Vitesse’s last Italian opponent was the other formation from the capital: group stage of the 2017/18 Europa League against Lazio, with the biancoceleste success away (3-2) and 1-1 at the Olimpico .

THE NUMBERS OF ROME

Roma, on the other hand, returns to the Netherlands after less than a year: on 8 April the Giallorossi found a great victory on Ajax’s field in the quarter-finals of the Europa League, with a 2-1 victory before the 1-1 at the Olympic. Roma have won the last two away games played in the Netherlands (again 2-1, also obtained in 2015 against Feyenoord) and are unbeaten in the five most recent games against Eredivisie teams: the last defeat dates back to 2002, on the pitch of Ajax. But pay attention to the internal performance of Vitesse, who in this Conference League have found success in their last three home games (without conceding a goal in the two most recent). On their side, the Giallorossi can count on eight victories in their last 11 European away matches, with three defeats: the draw hasn’t come since February 2020, against Gent.
