Conference League: this is at stake tonight for PSV, Feyenoord, AZ and Vitesse | Dutch football

No fewer than four Dutch clubs are trying to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Conference League tonight. For PSV, Feyenoord, AZ and Vitesse, not only sporting success is at stake.

The starting position
That is not very prosperous for many teams. Vitesse has the worst papers. The Arnhem team lost 0-1 to AS Roma at home. After the somewhat unfortunate defeat, the Arnhemmers have to repair the damage in Rome.

AZ also had little luck. After an easily given penalty in injury time, Pascal Jansen’s team still lost in Norway. The small defeat (2-1) must be brushed away in their own AFAS stadium.

PSV had also hoped for a more favorable starting position. Offensively, everything ran smoothly in the first leg against FC Copenhagen. Defensively, however, the Eindhoven team also dropped quite a few stitches, as a result of which PSV did not go further than a draw: 4-4. In Denmark, therefore, every effort will have to be made to secure a place in the last eight.

The only Dutch club for whom it can hardly go wrong is Feyenoord. The team from Rotterdam defends a 5-2 lead against Partizan Belgrade in their own Kuip. However, the Serbian frontrunner may have a little hope for a stunt, because Feyenoord camp with personnel problems

Premiums
If the Dutch clubs manage to reach the quarterfinals, the cash register will ring. UEFA has reserved one million euros for each quarter-finalist. They are not Champions League amounts (Ajax could have described ten million euros with a win over Benfica) but PSV, Feyenoord, AZ and Vitesse will not look the gift horse in the mouth.

Coefficient List
The four Dutch clubs can also do good business for the coefficient list. A win still yields 0.4 points. Because Benfica eliminated Ajax on Tuesday, Portugal has considerably reduced the virtual lead of the Netherlands. The difference is now only a small 0.7 points. It is therefore crucial that as many Dutch clubs as possible advance to the quarter-finals.

Last week the roles were reversed and the Netherlands won some ground on Portugal.
