Status: 08/11/2022 8:49 p.m

Bundesliga club 1. FC Köln meets FC Fehérvár from Hungary in the playoffs of the UEFA Conference League.

Fehérvár, with German coach Michael Boris, also won the second leg against Moldova’s FC Petrocub Hincesti 2-1 (2-1) on Thursday evening. Fehérvár had already won the first leg 5-0 a week ago.

The Georgian Budu Zivsivadze scored twice, the striker’s second goal was scored by ex-Hertha player Palko Dardai, Pal Dardai’s son. Former Mainz player Kenan Kodro came on for Dardai early in the second half.

The first leg in Cologne next week

For Cologne, the appearance in the Conference League will be the first international since 2017/18. The Rhinelanders’ playoff games will be played in Cologne on August 18th and away on August 25th. The winner advances to the group stage of the Conference League.

“We have the feeling that we can reach the group stage – that should also be our goal,” said Cologne coach Steffen Baumgart. Experts who predicted a difficult year in the Bundesliga for FC after reaching the play-offs for the Conference League accused Baumgart of a certain “superficiality”. “Of course we get a double burden. It’s always easier to say: It won’t be enough,” he said.

Fehervar coach Boris is looking forward to FC

FC Fehérvár, a club from the town of Székesfehérvár 60 kilometers southwest of Budapest, is coached by Michael Boris. “An absolute top lot for me personally – even if it’s not about me, of course,” Boris told the “Kölnische Rundschau”.

47-year-old Boris was born in Bottrop then the U21 took over.
