Conference League: Lech Poznan and Basel also pass

The Poles beat Djurgardens 3-0 in Sweden after 2-0 in the first leg, while the Swiss beat Slovan Bratislava 6-3 from 11-metre kicks after a 2-2 draw in regulation and extra time

Yesterday it was Gent’s turn, led by a super Orban, author of three goals in as many minutes. Today it was the turn of Lech Poznan, Fiorentina and Basel, respectively engaged with Djurgardens, Sivasspor and Slovan Bratislava. While waiting for the matches scheduled at 9 pm, there are four teams already qualified for the quarter-finals of the Conference League. The Poles go to Sweden (3-0) after a 2-0 win in the first leg, while Fiorentina – already victorious 1-0 at the Franchi – gets a 4-1 win in Turkey. The match between Slovan Bratislava and Basel continues until penalties. Last Thursday’s match ended 2-2, in the second leg the Slovaks went 2-0 up (goal from Kucka) and then let Calafiori and Amdouni recover. After extra time, the former Inter player Males was decisive from the penalty spot, scoring the final 6-3 for the Swiss.

DJURGARDENS 0-3 LECH POZNAN

The Swedes start off on the right foot, then Lech Poznan wakes up, resists and even scores three goals in the last quarter of an hour. The match was one-way: on 10′ the Poles hit the post with Ishak, at the interval they were already outnumbered due to Danielson’s expulsion. In the second half Szymczak hit the post and the crossbar, in the 77th minute Marchwinski (already scored, again as a substitute, in the first leg) deflected a low cross to stamp the 1-0. Kvekveskiri’s doubling and Skoras’ trio also arrive in the second half: nothing to do for Djurgardens, who pay dearly for the defeat in Poland.

SLOVAN BRATISLAVA-BASILEA 3-6 pen

One half each and two goals for each side: in the end, after a 2-2 draw in the first leg, the match was decided in extra time. Slovan immediately takes two goals ahead, thanks to the usual Juraj Kucka. The former AC Milan player starts from the frontline and transforms into an added striker: Abubakari’s 1-0 comes after a gore from the 36-year-old, who doubles with a right into the corner in the 17th minute. Basel tries to react but gets lost, up until the interval, in a sterile lap. The turning point came in the second half: in the 53rd minute Calafiori shortened the distance with a turn following the development of a corner, shortly after Zeqiri came close to equalizing. The goal that rekindled the hopes of the Swiss was scored by Amdouni, who shot from distance and surprised the opposing goalkeeper in the 93rd minute. The score didn’t change after half an hour of extra time and, in view of the penalties, goalkeeper Trnovsky, an eleven-metre specialist, entered Slovan. The move is of little use: Kucka makes a mistake, the Swiss are infallible and in the end they qualify thanks to the last decisive shot by the 21-year-old Males, owned by Inter.
