Conference League: Ex-BVB star Götze and Co. wall in Leicester

Ex-BVB star Mario Götze can continue to hope for the first title in the new Conference League with PSV Eindhoven – but the top Dutch football club did not perform masterfully in the quarter-final first leg.

PSV drew 0-0 at Leicester City, 2014 world champion Götze had one of the few good chances for the guests early on (2nd). Eindhoven have home advantage against the English in the second leg next Thursday.

Eindhoven’s league rivals Feyenoord Rotterdam gave up a last-second win. Against the Czech doubles winner Slavia Prague, the Dutch conceded the equalizer to 3: 3 (1: 1) in the fifth minute of added time, Ibrahim Traore scored for the guests.

Star coach Jose Mourinho experienced a disappointing away game, his AS Roma lost 2-1 (1-0) at Norwegian champions FK Bodö/Glimt.

The traditional French club Olympique Marseille is well on the way to the semi-finals, it was 2-1 (2-0) against PAOK Saloniki from Greece – the 2-0 (45th) will be remembered above all, Dimitri Payet scored a volley from a good 20 meters into the corner.

In the third-class European Cup, settled under Champions and Europa League, the German representative Union Berlin failed in the group phase – in third place behind Feyenoord and Slavia.

The final will take place on May 25th in the National Stadium in Albania’s capital Tirana.
